The final entry in the list contains a slight spoiler for a two hundred year old legend. But the 47 Ronin refers to a story known throughout Japan. Although it's treated with the reverence befitting a myth or legend, it's actually a real story, based on events that took place at the start of the 18th century. It's even celebrated as a public holiday in Japan, and has been reenacted countless times on film and television over the years, passing into popular myth.
And director Carl Rinsch is well aware of the pressure the story brings with it. I don't want to trespass on it. While on set I heard two terms used continuously and interchangeably: The Ronin attack Kira's mansion. Obviously not from the film Rinsch is defiantly making the story his own.
This isn't a po-faced reenactment of a classic tale. It's being ambitiously reinterpreted by Hollywood, injecting a major fantasy element to the source material.
An early treatment of the script was jam-packed with stunning sword fights. And the material seemed like a embryonic home run through despite the U.
It was one of the first projects the studio greenlit under chair Adam Fogelson, who was pushed out of his perch in September. The 3D martial arts forecast turned out to be a unfulfilment on many fronts.

One point of conflict was that Rinsch kept unfinished to make the film more Japanese, almost like an arthouse samurai moving picture. The studio, understandably, was nervous. The picture needed to play to mainstream audiences across the world in orderliness to break equable.
At one appropriate, Japanese-American actors had been considered.

Of them, 47 considered it a grave injustice that Kira was left unpunished, and resolved to restore honour to the name of their lord and his house.
It wasn't hokey — dragons popping out of the screen, chomping at viewers — it was being used to give the film an almost theatrical quality. The samurai had followed the precepts by avenging the death of their lord; but they had also defied the shogunate's authority by exacting revenge, which had been prohibited.
So the way I was able to tune into it was, to say OK what if my father was killed? It was Yamamoto Tsunetomo , author of the Hagakure , who asked the well known question:
